TVIM reports that the CFE (Federal Electrical Commission) began installing a 10 MVA (Mega Volt Amperes) transformer on Friday morning, to replace a 3 MVA transformer. The CFE workers said this new equipment aims to guarantee adequate energy capacity in Isla Mujeres, where the number of hotels and businesses are growing. The team arrived on the island a couple days ago, and the maneuvers with forklifts and cranes began on Friday, which caused the closure of streets during the early hours of the morning. The CFE officials said the equipment weighs about 20 tons. The work will take several more days, with the process of installation and connection to begin after the current work of placement is completed. (photos) LINK
