Sunday night at 7pm on the Town Square--Lighting of the Christmas lights & dance troupe performances!
The Mayor announced that security cameras will be installed next year at 20 strategic surveillance points which will be connected to a monitoring center of the municipal police and interconnected to the C5 facility of the State police.
Each point will have a pole with up to 4 "PTZ" type cameras, with one that rotates 360 degrees, for greater scope and monitoring for increased vigilance and immediate reaction to situations of risk, for the benefit of residents and visitors, providing security in all areas of the municipality.
Mayor Juan Carrillo Soberanis said, “It is very important to invest in technology, and with coordinated work with the State Government and police agencies, we are working to strengthen the security that Isla Mujeres is known for. We are doing everything, so that in 2020 we will have the surveillance points installed, and we will continue to do our part as the government to provide a better quality of life to the islanders."
In conclusion, he emphasized that there is a firm commitment to continue working so that this Pueblo Magico remains a safe destination for tourists and for island families to reside in an environment of tranquility and peace, so they will continue to carry out the necessary steps, without stopping, to promote strategies that protect the integrity of the population.
Fifteen employees of the V&V Marina in Playa Mujeres on the mainland attended a course in "Risk Prevention and Security Measures in the Workplace", provided by the Crime Prevention department of the municipal police department. Workshops, classes and training are carried out by the department in an ongoing manner for the prevention of crime and security of the community, which is a priority of this administration

An operation to detect "pirate" golf carts was conducted by inspectors with the state Mobility Institute, accompanied by the officers with the municipal police department and the president of the rental agencies association, Julián Ricalde Magaña. VIDEO of an interview with Mr. Ricalde Magana who says a meeting was held two weeks ago between the state Mobility Institute officials, officials with the municipal government, and representatives of the golf cart rental agencies, who agreed to have an ongoing effort against "pirate" golf carts. He explains that these are carts with private plates, whose owners don't have a concession to rent them, and they lack insurance, which puts the tourists at risk, which the tourists don't realize until they are involved in an accident.
The Director of the community hospital of Isla Mujeres Leyli Guadalupe Osorio Mares, announced that a vaccination module against influenza will be installed at APIQRoo (The Maritime Terminal). It will be open in November and December from 9a to 1p for islanders at risk including children between 6 months and five years of age, seniors age 60 and older, pregnant women, health care workers and people with diabetes, hypertension, HIV, cancer, or obesity, for free whether or not they have Seguro Popular.

Promoting legal challenge to Animal Protection Law

Servando Guzmán, president of the Livestock Association of Isla Mujeres and president of the organizing committee of the Rancho Viejo Fair, located in the Continental Zone, expressed objections to the new State law of Animal Protection which prohibits activities such as bullfights, cockfights, horse drawn carriages, and other related activities. He said this law has had a large impact on the Continental Zone where about 100 families depend directly on these activities and another 50 indirectly.He says bullfights, cockfights and other activities with horses are part of the attractions of the Patron Saint fairs around the state, including the annual festival in Ranch Viejo honoring the Virgin of Fatima, beginning on May 13th. He is promoting the filing of a legal protest (an amparo). He said hundreds of families around the state benefit from these fairs and he claims the law is harming their economy and the traditions of the Mexican people.

The municipal Tourism Department reports that hotel occupancy is around 58 percent and on the rise, with increasing occupancy expected during the upcoming weeks as colder temperatures occur in the northern US and Canada, encouraging tourism by visitors with high purchasing power, which occurs annually during the winter season. Domestic tourists continue to visit to enjoy the island's attractions.It is noted that tourism promotions are also focused on reaching new markets in South America through media such as television.
Peaceful march supporting International Day for Elimination of Violence Against Women
Mujeres realizan marcha pacífica
Dozens of local women, wearing orange tee shirts and carrying signs supporting the cause, participated in a peaceful march supporting International Day for the Elimination of Violence Against Women. They walked down the main street and concluded the march at the Town Square. It is noted that conferences and activities are held in conjunction with commemorating this cause on the 25th of each month to raise awareness on the importance of prevention and elimination of gender violence. The head of the municipal Crime Prevention agency added that they work in an ongoing manner with the different social sectors in order to reduce cases of violence in their various manifestations. These activities include workshops, conferences, fairs, courses, talks and presentations.The event was also attended by members of the City Council and other municipal authorities, as well as Yara Faride Briceño Chablé who gave a presentation entitled "I am strong, I am extraordinary: I am a woman".

Thursday, Nov. 28 The Festival for the Town Saint, Our Lady of Immaculate Conception will begin when the icon is removed from her niche after the 7pm Mass when hundreds of parishioners take her on a procession around downtown, and later there will be a cultural event on the Town Square with live music and dancing.
The Cabalgata horse procession is Saturday, Dec. 7th at noon & Por Esto says it will travel from downtown to the colonias. That evening at 7pm is the vehicular caravan around the isle, and at 9pm is the Mass of the Mañanitas with Mariachi.
On her Day, Sunday, Dec. 8th are the Communions (10a) and the procession by the boats in the Bay (3p), with the closing Mass and return to her niche at 6p.
