Navy rescued a yacht and its crew who ran out of gas
Semar rescata yate y tripulación
The yacht "Patos" was traveling from Florida to Isla Mujeres with nine people aboard when they ran out of fuel about 12 nautical miles from Isla Contoy and requested assistance. A Naval MLB-type vessel was dispatched which located the yacht and towed then to the Naval dock, where medical personnel determined they were in good health. This occurred on Sunday afternoon, and they left by their own means. The Navy has conducted a half dozen rescues this year, assisting more than a score of people.Good start to the lobster catching season
Inició con buen ritmo la captura de langosta
The lobster catching season began with normal levels of capture, which the fishermen said would have been better if the water was less cloudy. Product was delivered before noon to the facilities of the cooperatives “Caribe”, “Patria y Progreso”, “Justicia Social”, “Isla Blanca” and “Makax”, which was considered as a good sign for the start of the eight month season. Closing time is generally 4pm for most of the cooperatives, except occasionally, like in January, when some returned with more than 20 kilos per boat. Those who did well brought in a little over 10 kilos, while others brought in eight or less. It is noted that going out means investing in about 2000 pesos in fuel, and the prices per kilo are: 350 to 500 pesos for whole dead; 400 to 450 pesos for whole alive; and 580 to 600 pesos for tails. There are two experienced divers per boat going to depths of over 40 meters.
No problems were reported from the nearly 100 boats that went out, most of which returned the same day, while others headed up to Cabo Catoche, following the coastal lagoon system. Lobster traps were placed in rocky areas that divers have already marked. Those using nets in the Isla Contoy Bay will wait until autumn.
Accumulated sand caused beach growth
Se extiende la playa por el recale de arena
It the past three years, Playa Centro has grown about 15 meters due to sand accumulating. This has also occurred south of Playa Centro.Tourism activities are back to normal
Se normalizan actividades turísticas
Tourism was back to normal on Monday, after being decreased by the weather on Monday, which was rainy in the morning and overcast in the afternoon. Good weather is forecast for Tuesday.~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
