~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~Photos from yesterday's football event at the Salina Chica soccer field with Connor Williams, who plays for the Dallas Cowboys. Mr. Williams took photos & signed autographs, and was welcomed by the Mayor. There were 150 athletes from various cities participating in the (flag football) tournament with 10 male teams and 8 female teams. The Mayor said that sports activities are good for promoting tourism and beneficial for the economy and families of the island. The article also notes that two new sports schools have opened on the island, one for boxing and one for table tennis.
On Wednesday, July 24th, "Blue Flags" will be raised over three beaches of Isla Mujeres that have been certified for 2019-2020. (Playa Centro has been recertified, and North Beach and Playa Albatross received the designation for the first time). The head of ZOFEMAT, the Federal Zone agency, said there is a crew of 15 workers cleaning the beaches daily from 5a to 10a, removing trash, raking and sifting sand, and getting rid of sargasso, which she explained has only arrived very few times and low quantities.
Isla Mujeres offers recreation for the whole family with clear blue-turquoise seas, beaches that are free of sargaso, and an infinity of aquatic activities. Come and be seduced by the natural riches of this Pueblo Magico.
The season for observing and swimming with the whale sharks in Quintana Roo begins in May and ends in September. To the north of our state, we are privileged to have the only reserve at an world level focused on conservation of this majestic species. Whale sharks aren't dangerous for humans, in fact, they are affectionate and at times, playful. They can measure up to 18 meters (59 feet) in length. The dots and lines on their body are unique to each individual. For a respectful swim, let's be aware of the importance of the protection and conservation of this species, jewel of biodiversity that fills residents of this state with pride. VIDEO
BREVES DE ISLA MUJERES
The first brief is about the Honda motorcycle found on Friday morning in the Salina Grande lake, which has already been translated, noting it was at the edge of the water with its tires in the weeds. It was intact, and not presumed to be stolen.The second is about the "Isla Verde" activities on Friday afternoon which included painting of the Senior Citizens dome in colonia La Gloria, and curbs in the vicinity by staff of various municipal agencies. A municipal official explained that this is part of an ongoing weekly program with public servants going into the streets to sweep, collect trash, paint curbs and crosswalks, to keep this Pueblo Magico clean and green.
Combating mosquito-borne diseases
Combaten al mosco transmisor del paludismo
Personnel with the Vectors Department have been fogging in the mangroves of Sac Bajo around the Makax lagoon with the 'thermospray system' and applying herbicides to the bodies of water. This work is done with some frequency to prevent mosquito-borne diseases including dengue, maleria, chikungunya, and zika. Unofficial sources report that there have been no incidents of these illnesses on the island so far this year.With the rainy season approaching, the team acts to avoid proliferation of these vectors, with an ongoing campaign and constant monitoring in the field. The cemeteries are included, because people have the habit of filling the pots with water, and now it is recommended to use artificial flowers to avoid this.
Frequent monitoring is carried out at the Mundaca Hacienda, where everyone who enters is likely to suffer from attacks by mosquitoes, which is inconvenient for those seeking information about this historical site.
Health care agreement between DIF & Anahuac University
Convenio DIF-Anáhuac por salud popular
Information has already been translated about the agreement with Anahuac University to provide interns and student doctors during the month of August, with some participating in December. Xhanat Tze González Mora, director of CRIM (Center for Comprehensive Municipal Rehabilitation), said that the DIF (social service agency) will be the headquarters to receive interns, students and practitioners obtaining undergraduate degrees in health-related areas; such as psychology, nutrition, general medicine, physical therapy and rehabilitation, who will be sent to various health institutions such as the CRIM, according to the needs of the facilities.~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
