Ongoing junk pick up & removal campaign. (photos & article)
Junk pick-up and removal campaigns are being conducted in an ongoing basis on the island and in the Continental Zone on Tuesdays and Thursdays, in the colonias of Cañotal, La Caribeña, Salina Chica, Meteorológica, Miraflores, La Gloria, Ampliación la Gloria, Salina Grande, Electricistas, La Guadalupana, El Bosque, San Antonio and "el Centro" downtown on the island, where 962 tonnes of junk have been removed.
The Director of Public Service, Pablo Jesús Moreno Povedano, said this is fundamental for the prevention of mosquito borne diseases like dengue, zika, and chikungunya and has been ongoing since 2016. He said that these campaigns began in coordination with the Department of Health and the Mayor, who decided to make them continuous throughout the municipality, for the benefit of the health of the islanders.
In addition, the Program for Care & Attention to Public Spaces was created, through which a total of 800 square meters of parks and public areas have been attended to with activities including pruning, removal of weeds and dangerous trees, liming of the trees and painting. They removed  9180 cubic meters of weeds and 10.3 tons of plastic bottles, cans and garbage in general.
Regarding the garbage collection service, Moreno Povedano explained that additional workers were hired, assigned to the section of trash collection, to ensure that the work groups are complete and that collection service operates every day of the year in compliance with the established routes and schedules, covering 6 daily routes in the island, in the morning and afternoon, with extra tours in  the tourist areas, as well as 3 routes, in the morning and afternoon, in the Continental Zone.
He said,  "Always with the objective of improving the quality of life of the islanders and remaining among the best destinations in Mexico, we are committed to continuing to work on establishing conditions that allow us to totally rehabilitate the Trash Transfer area and keep all public spaces clean, as well as the tourist areas."
In compliance with the wishes of the municipal president, public policies have been implemented aimed at converting Isla Mujeres into a sustainable municipality, in harmony with the environment, among which a solution was given for the condition of the Trash Transfer facility, which is only a temporary waste reception area.
The Department of Public Services is also in charge of sweeping the main streets and colonias of the island, activities in which neighborhood participation has been promoted, involving the islanders in programs aimed at maintaining a clean municipality.

Port Authority (APIQRoo) plans to invest over 2 million pesos in Isla Mujeres (article & photos).
The coordinator of the state Port Authority (APIQRoo) in Isla Mujeres, Rosa Elena Ríos Fernandez, explained that four improvement projects will be carried out, with an investment of 2,030,000 pesos.
One project is the renovation of the lighthouse at Punta Sur which will also be given a new image, at a cost of 238,000 pesos. A project already underway is the renovation (repaving/re-encarpetamiento) of the operations area of the car ferry terminal, as well as replacement of the retaining wall for that terminal, at a cost of 838,000 pesos. At the passenger ferry terminal, new lights are planned for the pier, at a cost of 246,000 pesos. They are going to renovate the old concrete dock at the passenger ferry terminal, which has been in service for the ferries for more than 30 years, at a cost  648,000 pesos.
She said that all these works are already in process and should be completed by mid-November or by the third week of that month, provided the weather conditions cooperate.

The submarine cable that supplies electricity to the island is within its useful life and could be replaced in 3 or 4 years (article & photos) , The regional manager of the Federal Electricity Commission (CFE), Gonzalo Paredes Plancarte, said the cables won't be replaced because they have reached the limit of their useful life, which they have not, but rather to improve the quality of electrical services. It consists of four lines, and at current prices replacement costs would exceed 300 million pesos. Meanwhile, there is a program for ongoing monitoring of the line, which includes the inspection at the underwater transition points, at the Island and at Punta Sam, which includes the frequent replacement of some accessories.
He said the lines are still within their useful life and could be replaced within 3 or 4 years.  He explained that the demand for electric power supply service has increased in recent years in Isla Mujeres, especially since it became a Pueblo Magico, which has forced them to bring in mobile emergency generators, in order to meet the needs for electricity during periods of maximum demand.

Construction begins on bank branch. (article & photos)
Isla Mujeres will soon have a third bank branch, because construction has begun where the ATM of Banjercito is located, at the Navy base. Information wasn't available about the cost of the project or the completion date, but it is estimated it will take a month and a half or two months, and be finished by mid-November or at least by the end of the year. The banks that currently have branches in Isla Mujeres are HSBC and Banamex.

Personnel with Aguakan were working to solve the problem, which they said was caused by an accumulation of grease from a nearby address where red meat is sold, and the cooked fats obstructed the line. The spill ran across the road and to the Salina Grande lake, causing contamination. The Aguakan personnel worked on in on Thursday evening for four hours, starting at 7:30, without solving the problem, so they placed a pipe to reroute the sewage water. However, in the morning, the spill had resumed, and they began working on it again before 8:30am, until they had removed the obstruction three hours later. The problem occurred at the intersection of Boca Limbo street where it connects with the Navy housing area.
