There has been a lack of progress on the renovation of the wooden dock, which was expected to be completed in six month, and eight months have passes, and progress appears to be halted. LINK On June 16, the Port Authority of Quintana Roo announced an investment of One million 854 thousand 371 pesos, and the job was given to JG Maquinaria y Construcciones. They were to place hardwood pilings, made from regional wood, in the same location, and replace the decking and other parts.
General Director of Apiqroo, Alicia Ricalde Magaña, said, "This public work project is part of the work to modernize the port infrastructure of the state, plus it is one of the commitments of Governor Carlos Joaquín González, in order to generate increased and better opportunities for Quintana Roo."
Apiqroo announced that it had the authorization of the Ministry of Environment and Natural Resources (Semarnat), as well as having the technical opinion of the Municipality of Isla Mujeres and the permit for working in Mexican marine areas, and permissions from the Secretary of the Navy, Navy of Mexico, Fifth Naval Region.
There is a VIDEO of the arrival of the Navaganto ferry Lady Di after her first crossing. They are offering courtesy trips between Isla Mujeres & Puerto Juarez today and tomorrow, so that people can get to know them and they are hoping to be able to announce more information this week. He said it takes 26 minutes & there are 120 seats in the back part and 82 in the forward area with the windows. There's an ad with crossing times for the free trips on Naveganto Tuesday & Wednesday. (Wed from P. Juarez at 10, 12, 3, and 5 and from I. Mujeres at 11, 1, and 4.)
Moving of Prisoners LINK
As of this Tuesday, the municipal prisons located in Isla Mujeres, José María Morelos and Lázaro Cárdenas, are decommissioned from acting as Preventive Prisons for the Execution of Sentences, and they will return to their original purpose as detention centers for Administrative Misdemeanors. The Agreement includes the immediate transfer of sentenced or processed persons deprived of their liberty, from these municipal prisons to the Center for Social Reintegration (Cereso) of Chetumal or Cancun, to the Municipal Retention Center of Playa del Carmen or Felipe Carrillo Puerto, whichever is closest.
