  Approximately 80 artisans from 15 states of  Mexico are participating in the "Orgullo y Tradición" /Pride and Tradition Craft Pavilion in Isla Mujeres, which was inaugurated this weekend. 
     The event is organized by the Government of the State of Quintana Roo, through the Secretariat of Economic Development (SEDE), in coordination with the National Fund for the Promotion of Crafts (FONART) and the City of Isla Mujeres. 
       Leonel Povedano Castillo, general director of Economic Development in Isla Mujeres, said the artisans will display and sell their works to the general public from the 16th  until February 19, from 9:00 am, at the Town Square, in front to the Municipal Palace.
        We are very happy to host an event so important for the economic development of our state and through which we provide important support to local and national producers, "said the official. There are about 10 Isla Mujeres participating. 
       The inauguration was attended by the General Secretary of the City Council, Antonio Coronado Rojas, and a representative of FONART. LINK 


     Personnel with the Navy based in Isla Mujeres (the Fifth Naval Region) rescued two people aboard a small boat named "FAIS DO DO" which was adrift approximately 74 kilometers (40 nautical miles) north of Isla Mujeres. The Command and Control Center of the Secretary of the Navy received a call reporting that the boat"FAIS DO DO" ​​was adrift with two people of US nationality aboard.
       Therefore, the departure was ordered of a Defender vessel from the Naval Maritime Search, Rescue and Surveillance Station of Isla Mujeres, which located the small boat with its crew on board. They towed the boat to the Bay of Isla Mujeres, where Naval Health personnel performed medical evaluations on the crew, finding them in good health. 
     With these actions, the Department of the Navy-Armada of Mexico as a National Maritime Authority, reaffirms its commitment to the citizenry to safeguard human life at sea, as well as ensuring that Mexico has clean, safe and efficient ports. LINK 

     The company Naveganto formally began operations on Sunday, operating hourly from 5:05am to 10:05pm between Isla Mujeres and Puerto Juarez, offering fares below Ultramar, and a few pesos lower than Marinsa. The round trip fare for residents on Naviganto is 70 pesos, which is 14 pesos less than the 84 pesos charged by Ultramar, while the rate is 76 pesos on Marinsa. 
     It is important to note that the rates for residents of Quintana Roo are the same as those for islanders, which makes it attractive for residents of Cancun and other municipalities to visit the island.  
      The opportunity to use the Naveganto ferry is considered very attractive, since it is cheaper by 6 pesos compared to its closest competitor Marinsa, whose crossing takes longer, and 14 pesos cheaper than the strongest competitor, Ultramar, who offer fast, comfortable boats, if one takes into account that Naveganto's boats are good and equally comfortable.
   The prices are the same for island and Quintana Roo residents, 35 pesos one way, 70 pesos round trip, and children are 13 pesos one way and 25 pesos round trip. Student tickets are 14 pesos one way and 25 pesos round trip. The rate for those with an INAPAM credential (seniors) is 20 pesos one way and 40 pesos round trip. LINK

  This article has the same information as the TVIM article above and also notes that the last intervention by the Navy was the rescue of seven Cubans on February 3, adrift on a makeshift raft, 237 kilometers northwest of Isla Mujeres (sic usually they are northeast). Every year the Navy performs a dozen rescues, including transportation of sick passengers on cruises that frequent, occur in the Yucatan Channel, including several cases in recent times.

     The Real Villanueva and Novatos teams moved ahead in the semifinals of the Municipal Soccer League and obtained the right to play in the grand final of the tournament next Saturday night.


Trilanchiapas wins "lightning" soccer tournament

     Feb. 18   Last night the "Trilanchiapas" team won last night the lightning soccer tournament, organized by the Autonomous Cohesion Association of Citizen Entrepreneurship (CADEC). Eight teams of young people participated in the tournament over several days.  The CADEC association is committed to strengthening  social fabric by distancing children and youths from harmful practices that can affect their health.

Visit marinas, bars, & beach clubs that are minutes away by bike or on foot. Attend Yoga classes a couple villas away at hotelito Casa Ixchel. Fresh juice, produce & tortillas a few blocks away in the village, as well as a variety of other stores and small local restaurants. It takes 20-30  minutes to walk downtown.
