Helman Ulises Berman Graniel, municipal Director of Civil Protection and Firefighters, said that for the current administration it is very important to keep alive the traditions among the island society, therefore the municipal agencies in charge of security and civil protection will work in a coordinated manner during all the events that will take place during Carnival Isla Mujeres 2018.
He said, "For all our traditional events, we expect the arrival of not only national visitors, but also foreigners, who come to enjoy this great party with us, that is why we have already begun with the security work for the carnival to take place in a calm way, avoiding any type of contingency."
Preparing for the arrival of tourists during these dates, the personnel of the Coordination of Civil Protection and Firemen have made tours of the beaches, as well as the repair and installation of buoys to delimit the swimming area.
Also, in coordination with the Mexican Red Cross, Isla Mujeres delegation, the use of an ambulance was commissioned for the beach area, which will be located by the Fishermen's monument.
He said, "In preparation for Carnival 2018 we are doing many jobs, but not only in the area of beaches, but also in the shops that will open their doors to tourism during these days, so that their service is the best and accidents are avoided."
In addition, the official explained that all the staff of his agency will join the work that the Department of Public Safety and Municipal Transit will carry out during the massive events with the presence of the fire truck and a van to respond in a manner timely in the event of any eventuality.
The official concluded, "We ask for the support of the entire community so that, during these carnival festivities, in which we expect a considerable increase in the influx of tourists and the crowds of people in the main points of the island, to not throw garbage in the streets; to not obstruct the storm drains; and to avoid driving while intoxicated to prevent road accidents."
The City of Isla Mujeres, from the first day of the current administration, is working to ensure that this Pueblo Magico remains one of the safest destinations in Mexico, where visitors can learn about the culture and traditions of the community, as well as enjoying the natural beauty of the island, and in which the islanders can rejoice in their traditions with their families.

Historian and former mayor of Isla Mujeres, Fidel Villanueva, attributed the death of fish in the Salina lakes to a lack of oxygen, for which he urged the authorities to resume the project of interconnection the salinas with the sea. LINK
A man tried to commit a burglary at a small hotel downtown Isla Mujeres, which "ignited" alerts on social networks, where videos were posted of the the man, taken by security cameras. LINK
Several videos were posted on Feb. 5, showing a robust, bald man who is wearing Bermuda shorts and carrying a red helmet in one hand. The post of Ricardo Molina Pena said that he had come into their hotel, and tried to force the safe/moneybox (caja), but luckily someone came in and he left, so they installed cameras for prevention. This post was shared about 79 times and had over 47 comments. Among the comments were several people who'd alerted the authorities because the alleged thief had been seen in various parts of town.

After a case occurred with a woman in Isla Mujeres, the Attorney General's office of Quintana Roo recommends that citizens do not fall for scams by phone, because members of organized crime try to dupe the unwary. On Wednesday night, Arely N was given protection after receiving threats over the phone, which is a method for attempting to obtain money. Two telephone numbers are being investigated which were given, and are from the interior part of Mexico.
The municipal police and judicial police of the General Prosecutor's Office of Quintana Roo participated in the assistance, and a case file has been opened, and no further information is being provided at this time.
The recommendation to all citizens, from the prosecutor's office, is not to fall for this deception, to take all necessary precautions and report each case, to curb this widespread phenomenon in recent times.
Regarding the case of Arely, the Municipal Police intervened "quickly and effectively" in support and coordination with the Attorney General of the State (FGJE) found the whereabouts of the citizen residing in this town, who was of the status "disappeared". She was with her family "inside a room in a lodging center in the tourist area of the island, and was presented to the investigative agency for information about what probably constitutes a crime." Jaime Ongay Ortiz, Director of Public Security and Municipal Traffic, said that the location of this person occurred thanks to the coordinated work with agents of the Office of the Prosecutor, who were now carrying out investigations to clarify the facts.
TVIM reports that A.H.O received anonymous calls from numbers in Guadalajara and Monterrey saying he should pay 200,000 pesos in cash because his wife ANOQ had been deprived of her freedom.
The victim reported this to authorities, who conducted a joint operation and located the woman in the company of her aunt, inside a hotel on Juarez Avenue, without having made any payments. The two women were assisted medically and ordered to file a formal complaint.

Feb. 8 The nautical sector is taking advantage of the good weather, although caution is advised for the fishermen, since strong gusts of easterly winds could be dangerous. The Harbor Master said the port is open for all boats and there have been no incidents.
Some of the fishermen are limited because their outboard motors are old, and there is a danger of mechanical failures. The fishermen face dangers and can only conduct their activities when the weather permits, and many have died as a consequence of decompression, which is one of the main health problems suffered by divers who search for lobster in deep water, where they don't always observe the international diving protocols.
One of the members of the Isla Blanca cooperative posted this on a social network: "We have big projects to forget about fishing a bit, because many of our companions have died while working, and we do not want to lose any more, many of our colleagues are already tired, and every day we have to watch them go out diving, and we do not know if they will return okay."
"We can't dive anymore," he added, "but we have to keep looking for ways to move forward and this year's goal is to construct a large palapa, which would have mini bar and a grill for cooking fish, and we want to convert several boats for sport fishing.
