Preventing flooding in Isla Mujeres
- In order to prevent flooding after the rains, Civil Protection crews worked in various parts of the island to remove garbage from the storm drains. There were two squads of workers removing plant material and garbage, and the Civil Protection Department asked the community in general to collaborate by keeping the front of their houses clean and reporting to the authorities any accumulation of trash in the drains.

Historic pier privatized
Privatizan histórico muelle.. [+] Ver masFull article at this link
It had been proposed that an historic museum should be installed on the wooden ("Magana") pier, which has been a main gateway to the island since it was founded in 1850. Many residents are annoyed that it was leased for use as a restaurant "Muelle Azule" instead. Among those who object is Isla Mujeres historian Fidel Villanueva Madrid who sent a letter on this subject to alderman Diego Genaro González Aguilar, commissioner of Culture.
He explains that the old wooden pier "was key to the development of Isla Mujeres since 1850, long before the small island was known internationally for its white sands, its tranquility and the hospitality of its people, all factors that have made our destination one of the favorite places of visitors from all over the world." His letter goes on to explain that, via this pier, more than eight generations of islanders were supplied with basic supplies or exported items that were produced locally, including not items from the sea, as well as from the forests, such as palo de tinta (wood used for dye), copra (from coconuts) and chicle (from trees), among others . He wrote that rather than using the dock for its current purpose, he and members of the community would be grateful if its history was respected, and it deserves to be used for a purpose such as a museum of navigation and fishing in the region, from the times of the pre-Hispanic Maya to the present day.

The medication that is most effective and most commonly prescribed is chloramphenicol, either in drops or in ointment, which on average has a cost of 35 peso, but most pharmacies have run out of this medication. There is a compound of three generic medications which is suitable and sold at the Maritime Terminal pharmacy for 150 pesos, which is above the budget of many families. Advisories are being circulated about how to prevent the spread of this illness, which is very contagious and affecting dozens of people on the island.

- In order to promote the care of local flora and fauna, the City of Isla Mujeres through the Department of Ecology and Environment implemented the Blue Crab Protection Program.
During the full moon on October 6th, volunteers will help the blue crabs cross the road and reach the sea. Hundreds of crabs migrate from the wetlands to the sea to deposit their eggs, and unfortunately many are crushed by careless drivers. Volunteers are encouraged and invited to participate.
The director of Ecology and Environment, Carlos Barranco Garcia, announced that during the months of September and October, an ongoing campaign of protection to the blue crab is established and signs have been placed in strategic locations to advise motorists to take precautions so that the blue crabs won't be harmed when they cross the roads to spawn.
