In this season of reduced numbers of tourist, discounts of 15 to 30 percent are being offered by tourism services providers, including dive shops and boats offering tours. Businesses are negotiating with groups, like hotels do. Some small hotels are experiencing occupancy rates of 10 percent or less during this low season, which began in August. Golf rental agencies are also considering discounts, although they almost always
lease 80 to 90 percent of their fleet of more than 700 units, according
to some executives of those businesses.
Visitors are still enjoying Garrafon Park to observe the corals which have begun to recover from the damage they suffered from Wilma twelve years ago. The company that operates the park is monitoring its recovery.
There were also many people visiting the municipal Tortugranja aquarium, where children are more interested in the reproduction of turtles since the eggs they deposited on the beaches are being incubated there.
For most people who visited Isla Mujeres on Saturday, the biggest attraction was the two beaches and the beautiful, sunny weather while they enjoyed swimming the the shallow transparent turquoise water. The Harbor Master reported there were no incidents during the day, as did the Tourism office and the Tourism police.
