The Harbor Master, Ismael Gonzalez Gil said there have been no reports of damage or any reports of boats that became untied and lost. He said that before noon, there had only been reports of two or three boats that were found semi-sunken at dawn, but they didn't suffer damage, except their motors got wet which will require treatment to repair.
However this was different than some ports in the state of Yucatan; on the island, the squall or "mahaché" was mostly windy over the land and there was no major damage reported.
He said Saturday is expected to be sunny, and although the port had been closed for navigation by small boats since 8pm last (Thursday) night, it was expected to reopen on Saturday to allow all types of nautical activities.

Friday, authorities led by the governor of Quintana Roo, Carlos Joaquín González, installed the Security and Justice Bureau of Isla Mujeres, whose objective is to strengthen the institutions in charge of security and justice procurement in the municipality, and to make them work more efficiently
"With the installation of the Security and Justice Bureau of Isla Mujeres, we reaffirm our commitment to work in a coordinated manner between the three levels of government and with civil society, reinforcing the security of all islanders," said Mayor Juan Carrillo Soberanis. The Mayor is committed to working with all of the security agencies in the country to achieve the goal of improving the safety of islanders and people who visit Isla Mujeres.
On May 5th, 1898 the Commander of the Mexican Navy in charge of the area, Othón Pompeyo Blanco, founded the village of Payo Bishop, which is now Chetumal, the last frontier in the south of Mexico. (Chetumal is our state capital).
The island's mayor said that all municipal officers will continue to work to ensure the protection of all islanders, both on the island and in the Continental Zone, so that families live in a safe municipality., Juan Carrillo Soberanis said that the municipal government he heads will continue to work in coordination with the state and federal governments to ensure the well-being of all islanders, and of course, tourists, through constant surveillance in streets and avenues, as well the tourist areas, recreational areas, and schools.
"Security is a priority issue for this administration. There will be a fashion show featuring embroidered and handmade clothing that was made by the craftspeople of Mani Yucatan and is typical and traditional of that region. The event is coordinated by the Casa de la Cultura and will be held behind that facility on Saturday at 8pm, and will also feature clothing for sale.
Children and youths of Isla Mujeres will participate in modeling the shirts, blouses, dresses and other clothing, which will also be available to purchase at reasonable prices. The general public and merchants of Isla Mujeres are invited and encouraged to attend.
Dolphin: In a delicate state of health

May 5 Marine mammal specialists said that the health of the rescued dolphin is "stable, but delicate", as a result of a chronic gastric infection, dehydration, and parasitosis. He is a "Rough-toothed" (Steno Bredanensis) dolphin, approximately 25 years of age.

The Federal Electrical Commission continue working in the downtown area, now on the the streets of south Hidalgo and Bravo, which will continue to cause power interruptions, and annoyance from customers. Residents have also been annoyed when this work blocked access to their homes and motorists have been annoyed when it affects traffic. Areas of south Juarez were blocked over two days, and now other areas may be affected. This is preventative work to avoid future problems.

Students chosen for Knowledge Olympics

Isla Mujeres students Miguel and Rommel wil represent the island in Chetumal on May 20th at the State Knowledge Olympics, which is a competition in comprehension and mathematics. Participants include 210 students from rural schools, 652 students from urban schools, 186 from private schools, 72 indigenous and 43 CONAFE students for a total of 1179 students. Those who succeed at the state level will compete at the National level during the summer, and the top 14 will go to Mexico (State or City).
It is noted that according to the results released last year of the PISA 2015 (Program for the International Evolution of Students) indicates Mexico's students are below the average according to the OECD (Organization for Cooperation and Economic Development) in science, reading, and math. The average performance of 15 year old Mexican students did not change significantly since 2006, when the last reading assessment was made. However, math scores improved improved by five points every three years between 2003 and 2015.
On average, Mexican boys score higher than girls in the science assessment, but there is a similar percentage of boys and girls with both the low and high performance categories. About 45% of boys and 36% of girls are expected to be working in a science related occupation when they turn 30,.

by colonia La Gloria, near the Isla 33 condos. He is receiving
around-the-clock medical attention and monitoring at the Tortugranja,
where a team of marine mammal specialists from Dolphin Discovery have
been conducting studies to diagnose his health status.
Dr. Roberto Sánchez Okrucky, Director of Veterinary Medicine of Grupo Dolphin Discovery, said he has a chronic gastric infection, dehydration and parasitosis. "He underwent gastroscopy and an ultrasound without major pathological findings. His condition is stable but delicate. He is being hydrated daily and treated with antibiotics, antiparasitics, analgesics, anti-inflammatories and protectors of the gastric mucosa. The forecast is still reserved, but we expect positive developments on Friday," said Dr. Sanchez.
The Dolphin Discovery Group, who belong to the "Stranded Sea Mammal Network", responded to the request to assess the dolphin's health status and to coordinate the complex transfer from the dangerous area. The rescue protocol was immediately activated for the transfer of the dolphin to the Tortugranja of Isla Mujeres, an area of recovery assigned by the authorities. Those who participated in the rescue included a team of marine mammal specialists from the dolphin facility, staff of the Isla Mujeres municipal departments of Environment and Ecology , Civil Protection, and ZOFEMAT, as well as volunteers who are residents of the island.
He explained, "The dolphin is being monitored 24 hours a day at the Tortugranja by the Dolphin Discovery specialists, until his rehabilitation and reincorporation to his habitat, which is our priority. This could take weeks or more, as was the case in 2015 when that dolphin was released four months later."

Wednesday, May 3 and Thursday, May 4, the Eta Aquarid meteor shower can be seen, but it peaks in the predawn hours of Friday and Saturday. It is caused by debris from Halley's Comet. The most meteors can be seen during the hours before 5a, when dawn starts (After moonset which is 1:33a on Wed, 2:18a on Thur., 3:00a on Fri, and 3:49 on Sat).
