October 1 The x ray operator at the Community Hospital was off duty for the Dia de los Muertos holidays and will be back to work on Thursday, therefore an accident victim had to cross over to Cancun for x rays. The patient crossed over on a stretcher via the ferry and the CONALEP nursing student who accompanied him explained that it was not recommended that he cross in the boat ambulance since he has a fracture and the rough waves would make him feel worse.
He was interviewed while waiting for the ferry, and did not give his name, but said he was painting his house at dawn when the ladder slipped and he fell to the ground. He said, "The terrible part was that I was alone and because there was no one with me, it took a half an hour before anyone heard me. Then when I arrived at the Community Hospital, they told me I'd have to be taken to Cancun General because there is no radiologist, who left for the 'puente' (vacation...usually a long weekend) and returns Thursday. What good is it to have a nice hospital with equipment if there are no doctors or specialists to operate the equipment? It is the same as it was before".
The staff of the Port Authority said earlier that morning a women who had just given birth was transferred via the Ultramar ferry, with her baby in an incubator. It is said that the right thing would have been to use the maritime ambulance, but the Community Hospital did not request it, despite the commitment by the new Director General of the API (Port Authority) to have the boat available 24 hours a day when someone needs transport, and not only in the wee hours when the ferry doesn't run.

It was intermittently rainy on November 1st, and there were not many mourners doing maintenance on the graves for the Dia de los Muertos, and many prefer to wait until November 2nd. There are complaints about how crowded the cemetery is, since graves were allowed to be placed in the walkways, before the new cemetery was opened.

This information about the closure of the 'pink month' with an event with candles attended by the mayor and his wife has already been translated. The 9th annual Diabetes Clinic will be November 3rd in La Gloria. We are a team of nurses, social workers, EMT's and paramedics with a doctor for consultation of patients who need to be seen immediately. Please consider donating $50 which would buy 200 test strips, enough for one patient for a year. We also need donations of reading glasses, particularly the higher numbers.
