Problem with boats anchored in port area
Grave problema de invasión del recinto portuario [+] Ver masFull article at this link
The Harbor Master, Ismael Gonzalez Gil, would like a collaboration agreement between the three levels of government regarding the problem of boats anchoring in the stretch of beach 400 meters down from the concrete pier. It is his responsibility to keep the area of the water clear, because anchorage is not permitted in that area, which is occupied by nearly 100 recreational and fishing boats, while it is APIQRoo's (state Port Authority) who has the concession on the land, and who, like the City, maintains a good image of the site.
He would like an agreement between the three levels of government to build two or three piers that are 50 meters long, because there is no place to put boats on the island. In recent times, more and more people are putting their boats in this area, despite repeated advisories from the Port Authority, but the people have no where else to go. The Marinas charge large amounts of money, which the fishermen and lancheros don't have.
A few months ago, the Navy "invited" boaters to vacate the 50 meters of beach at the nothern side of the ferry terminal, and a number of those boats moved to this area. There are many boats on the beach and in the water, and some have installed temporary shade to rest and work there of the maintenance of the boats, which is interpreted as invasive and creating a bad image, and causes concern from the governmental institutions.
