Ferry company struggles to keep up with demand of thousands of tourists visiting Isla Mujeres
No se da abasto transporte marítimo en Isla Mujeres
Por incesante arribo de turistas

ISLA MUJERES, 26 de julio.-
This past weekend, there were long lines of tourists waiting in the morning to come to the island from Gran Puerto, and long lines in the afternoon when the visitors wanted to return to the mainland. In the mornings, it was more orderly, with tourists arriving between 9am and noon on Saturday and Sunday.
The longest lines occurred occurred after 5pm on Sunday afternoon when hundreds lined up to leave, but each boat only has room for 260 people. Although the ferry company had put nearly all its boats into service, there were too many people who wanted to go to the mainland. This created long lines, which at times obstructed access to the taxi stand, and to some shops and restaurants.
Some passengers have complained that a single ferry company cannot meet the demand, and they say another company is needed, while others say that this is not necessary, because the problems only occur during the holiday periods.

Whale shark tour operators estimate that their sector lost around 1.2 million pesos when the Port Authority restricted small boats from going out at the last minute, due to large swells and strong winds in the morning.
Dozens of boats had begun preparing at 6am, with the intention of taking tourists out from various parts of the mainland including Puerto Juarez, Punta Sam, and the Hotel Zone of the Isla Mujeres Continental area. At 7:20am, the Harbor Master announced that these activities would be suspended due to inappropriate weather, which included strong choppy currents, and intense winds. This affected a maximum of 120 boats who offer the tours, of which about 70 are from Isla Mujeres and the other 50 are from Cancun and Holbox.
The Harbor Master said that this was done to ensure the safety of each and every visitor. He also said if the tours had taken place as scheduled, the tourists would have suffered severe seasickness and vomiting, as a result of the large waves, and what was intended to be a pleasurable tour would have been unpleasant, uncomfortable experience.

The event took place Friday at the Town Square, starting at 7:15 pm, featuring members of the Ministry of the Divine Child Jesus from Merida, Yucatan, and the Isla Mujeres youth group, Carisma Joven. It featured emotional moments.
Next the Carisma Youth Group will begin preparing for “El Congreso Eucarístico” on August 12, when thousands of people are expected to come to Isla Mujeres, where the event is being hosted.

Children in the Baax Loob Paala Loob summer camp help with reforestation
NIÑOS DEL BAAX LOOB PAALA LOOB PARTICIPAN EN BRIGADA DE REFORESTACIÓN
On Wednesday, more than 40 children who are participating in the “Baax lo’ob Paala lo’ob” Summer Camp helped plant trees and plants at the municipal nursery at the Mundaca Hacienda. This event was part of the many, various activities conducted by the camp, to raise awareness about caring for the environment. It was organized by volunteers and members of the Departments of Sports and of Ecology. Next Tuesday they will conduct a crafts workshop to reuse recycled materials.
The children learned about the plants which were planted, including chit, guayacán and ciricote, and about how to use dried vegetation for compost. There was a discussion about separation of trash at home, and using compost to fertilize gardens, and how this allows for more nutrients to be given to the plants.
This is an invitation to participate in the 8th edition of the National Contest for Social Guidance
The Secretary of Culture, via the Institute of Culture and the Arts of Isla Mujeres, invites all children to participate in the Children's Drawing & Reading Contest based on the children's stories of José Joaquín Fernández de Lizardi. Contact info is given.

Transcripts being held for unpaid fees

This is an article about the Agricultural Zone on the mainland and parents who are objecting to the withholding of documents for their children. The documents aren't being released because these five parents owe fees to the Parents Board, who charge 10 pesos per week per student. They phoned the newspaper and would like intervention from the Director of CONAFE (National Council for Educational Development).
The parents say they live in a rural area and lack the economic means to pay these fees, but want the ten transcripts and certifications released. They say they are being asked to pay 2000 pesos and more which are owed, and others owe 400, 600, and 800 pesos. They say this is unfair and are asking for intervention by the SEP (Secretary of Education, I think).
