After Isla Mujeres fishermen found some buoys, relatives of the crew of the Anastacia are asking the nautical community to help identify these fishing buoys. The five fishermen have been missing for 17 days, since March 31. The buoys, used for marking (señalización) were found on Friday.
The father of one of the missing fishermen said the buoys are not from the Anastacia, but it is possible that a fisherman lent the buoys to them on the day they left to go shark fishing. With the identification of these buoys, it can be determined whether they belong to another vessel and are not connected with the Anastacia, or whether they could indicate the boat has capsized.

This weekend marked the 11 year anniversary since a group of Isla Mujeres residents occupied the (abandoned) land that has become the irregular colonia "Guadalupania". The residents of the neighborhood hope that this year their lots will become legalized/regularized (deeded), and the community could have all the basic services. Settlers of this community say the situation has been an impediment to progress and improving their homes, however some have already built foundations, with the intention of adding a second story.
Residents say that despite all the problems they face, the colonia has managed to overcome many difficulties, but they know that the battle is not over, and they look forward to news about the final settlement of the property. Because their lots lack legal status, they lack many basic services, although they have tap water, which was introduced by the state government. There are some streetlights on the main streets, but there is a need for electricity service to each of the houses. One of the residents said, "We are not asking for a hand out; we just want services introduced and each person will pay for it." There is a legal suit, and they are seeking legal status for their lots under the law that gives the benefit of legitimizing (regularizing/deeding) properties in an irregular settlement.
It is noted that some non profit organizations and foreign associations have offered to help many of the families living there with offers of construction materials or of complete construction of housing, but the residents have been unable to take advantage of this due to a lack of security of land tenure.

He encouraged members of the general public who are unemployed to come by the CROC offices and fill out a form to access the job marked and the various vacancies that are available. Isla Mujeres musician "Pochon"

This is a long article of an interview with Isla Mujeres native and musician, Gregorio Sánchez Celis “Pochón”, who is well known locally for his talent, as well as for his compositions that include parodies of local people. In the 80's he enjoyed some fame and success with his interpretation of "El Tigre Rasurado" , and appeared the musical program Televisa Raul Velazco. Nowadays, foreigners visiting Isla Mujeres from the United States and Canada enjoy his version of this song and have posted videos on the internet that include him singing it & acting out the dog attack dramatically with his voice and guitar strings.
It is a humorous song about a black guy walking down a narrow, dark street with five mean dogs, who comes upon resting indigenous man with a skinny, motley dog at his feet. The walking guy yells at him to get that scrawny dog out of the way or his five fat, vicious dogs will kill it. The old guy angrily says, "We'll see about that"...and faster than a cock can crow, the skinny, motley critter killed the five dogs, whose owner asks incredulously, "What kind of dog is THAT?" The reply/punchline, "It's no dog...it's a shaved tiger!" In some versions of this song, such as the one at this Link there's another verse about how that's what your girlfriend becomes when you marry her This song is popular among people who've had plenty to drink, and at Carnaval...in both cases, it is often 'acted out'. Good weather for tourism activities

At this time there are fewer tourists and some hotels are reporting occupancy of less than 40 percent, but that is expected to improve in early May with the arrival of the Regatta. Fishing tournament expected to improve hotel occupancy

Hotel occupancy is at 50% overall, and hoteliers hope it will reach 80% during the fishing tournament May 20, 21, and 22. Occupancy is not expected to improve significantly with the Women's Fishing Tournament, nor with the Regatta of Sol al Sol.

This is about a baseball game scheduled for Sunday at 1pm between the finalists of the Liga Tecnológica Invernal (winter league), which is the first time in history that two Islander teams will face off for the final. The teams are the Pescadores, managed by Martin Trejo (of Minino's) and the Cockteleros of the City of Isla Mujeres. This is the second game and in the first the Cockteleros won. If the Pescadores win this game, there will be a third, final game, at the home stadium, El Pescador. Whoever wins, Isla Mujeres will take the championship. The game will begin with a presentation of the players and the Mayor will throw the first ball, and then "playboooool!"
Bus service: From bad to worse

Bus service on the island has gone from bad to worse, with a single bus that was out of service for several months, and broke down again after resuming operation for a few days. The urban transportation concession is owned by Isla Turicun, which is a subsidiary of Turicun, who began supplying service 15 years ago in the middle of a controversy.
According to the concession granted by the Mayor at that time, Jorge Martinez Pena, the company was supposed to provide five minibuses, with four in operation over two designated routes and the other in reserve, ready to go into operation when there are mechanical problems. Before the islanders knew it, the two routes were reduced to one and there was only one unit providing service.
Turicun's argument was that they did not have an garage to store the vehicles, but did noting about that issue when they were offered land next to the trash transfer facility, where the gas plant is now.
Residents of Isla Mujeres who are tired of guessing what time the bus will come by say the City officials should have a meeting and analyze the terms of the concession, which no administration has done since the arrival of Turicun was authorized, and if possible revoke the concession and give another company the opportunity to provide service.

April 7, Thursday at 6:30pm on the Town Square, in a "Sesion Ordinaria" (That usually means a regular session of the City Council) the Music Trova (repertoire) of Isla Mujeres will officially be declared a part of the Intangible Cultural Heritage of the state of Quintana Roo.
It doesn't mention if there will be a performance, but since it is happening on the Town Square rather than inside the Town Hall, that seems like a possibility.
