The installation of checkpoints at various points of the island to provide security for tourist and to prevent traffic accidents has begun for the holiday period. The Chief of Police, Joaquin Poot Acosta, said these measures will be maintained and increased according to the influx of visitors this vacation season, with the intention of completing it with a 'saldo blanco' (no incidents).

He explained that to ensure safety and avoid accidents, without trying to harass drivers in general, the checkpoints will remain in place on Fridays, Saturdays, and Sundays, to be removed in the early hours on Mondays. On Mondays, Tuesdays, Wednesdays, and Thursdays they will conduct patrols where there are the greatest concentrations of the public, with the intention of preventing any potential crimes, as a protective measure for residents and tourists.
At the checkpoints, they will be monitoring for drunk driving and for minors driving golf carts that were rented to adults. With these measures of security aimed principally toward protecting vacationers, the residential areas of the island will not be neglected, and vigilance will be maintained there also to avoid the commission of crimes.

APIQROO (Port Authority of Quintana Roo) manager, Jazmin Perez Gaytan, said they are testing the implementation of having a single line for local passengers, departing or returning, to facilitate the flow of passengers during this season of increased tourism. The number of local passengers will be limited to 80 per boat, and could be modified according to user needs, in the future.

The mega event held Friday in Isla Mujeres was a success. Hundreds of island families took advantage of the free services of the mega event that included another visit from the state program Recycling Trash for Food.

The groups addressed a letter to the Director of Tourism requesting his intervention for "regularization and inspection" and to check why prices are being allowed that are below the established amount of $125 per tourist for whale shark tours. They complained about the hostel Poc-Nah as one of those who charged lower rates, saying that this hurts all of the group, and unfairly drives down prices. Therefore they are seeking governmental intervention for improved regulation of prices and quality of services, with the goal of providing an improved image for tourists.
They say training is beneficial for all personnel who are providing tourism services, and in order to practice what they preach, they have stared training. Among the agencies who signed the letter are: Capitán Blakie, Destino Isla M., Island Adventure, Pedro Dzul, Isla Espartaco, Trip Isla Mujeres, Agencia Easy, Agencia Alondra, Fantasy Tours, Genaro Tours, and Contoy Adventures.

The invitation was made by the priest Marco de Carlo Hernández Limón, of that diocese, as a result of three previous visits by this group to his area where life is harsh due to the violence in the region. A sixty-seven year old woman was in a taxi, having received medical treatment for liver problems, when the vehicle was struck from behind, and she suffered a blackout. América Valle Cupul, 67, was taking taxi #75 with her husband, Fortunato Medina Cordero, when the incident occurred on Rueda Medina, near the whale shark monument. The Tsuru-brand taxi was hit from behind while it was crossing the speed bump, by a Ford pickup truck driven by Christopher Fuentes, who was allegedly speeding and could not stop in time.
The taxi driver, Noe Pantoja, said his vehicle was pushed forward about three meters by the impact. The damages to the taxi are estimated at about 25,000 pesos, according to the taxi union leader Eduardo Peniche Rodriguez, who personally supervised the procedures associated with the incident, which occurred at 10:40am.
The structure of the taxi was damaged, which caused the left rear door to be affected and to come down on Sra America. It took the strength of several men, since they needed to immobilize her inside the back of the unit, before moving her out onto the pavement to load her into the ambulance, for transfer to the hospital. While explaining how how his wife had blacked out from the impact, don Fortunato pointed out a hematoma (bruise) on the back of his skull, saying he had hit his head during the crash. The vehicles were taken to the impound yard while responsibilities are being determined.
