ISLA MUJERES, 1 de marzo.-
From Tvisla Mujeres
From the Municipal Facebook site.....
Since the beginning of this administration we have sought to rescue the patriotic traditions of tributes to our national flag. On the first Monday of each month, we pay honor to our country.
Desde el inicio de esta administración nos propusimos rescatar la patriota tradición de los homenajes a nuestra bandera nacional. Como cada primer lunes de mes, llevamos a cabo los honores a nuestro labaro patrio.
Talks against bullying were held in schools this week.
The municipal Director of Health, with concern for both the physical and emotional health of children and students, provided talks about prevention of bullying....
- La Dirección Municipal de Salud preocupada por el bienestar integral, tanto físico como emocional de los niños y jóvenes estudiantes isleños, durante la semana pasada llevó a cabo pláticas en las escuelas sobre la prevención …
The lectures were provided by psychologist Rosalba Balam, and included slides, videos, and other materials that offered the anti-bullying message in a manner that is interesting and effective. Schools that have benefited from these classes include the primary school Cesar Mendoza Santana, the private school Francisco Hernandez de Cordoba, and the high school, Colegio Bachilleres. The lectures will continue to be held at the other schools on the island, as well as on the mainland.
The goal is to promote the development of strategies for the prevention of bullying and to give attention to the risk factors for children and teens, while promoting the fulfillment of their rights, and strengthening their skills for protection. Bullying includes any form of psychological abuse, verbal or physical abuse, and bullies can be boys or girls, but it is more common in males.
The Director of the municipal Health Department, Tharin Sadat Casique, said prevention of bullying requires the cooperation of parents, teachers, and students, to create a safe and nurturing environment in which everyone feels good while they learn. The official said, "It is up to each and every one of us to contribute our part to get rid of this serious problem and finally make it disappear."

"Predation" in Makax Lagoon
Depredación en la laguna Makax[+] Ver mas
There has been land cleared in preparation for the construction of a 'muelle amigable' (friendly pier), said an unnamed spokesperson for the cooperative Makax. About 200 meters away are other "provincial docks", and various fishermen's boats.
This area has been established as a green area of conservation, but in reality they are private lands. According to the Urban Development Plan (PDU) of the island, at that area, the south part of Makax, construction may be permitted on 60% of the surface area. Some lots may be regularized or deeded, while others may not, in the area near Canotal, and at the south part of Makax.
