The boat was still able to move under sail, and inquired about the locations of the reefs.
After being "fondeado" for about 24 hours there, the boat arrived in the Bay of Isla Mujeres at 3pm today with all aboard in good health. They had remedied the mechanical problem, and the Naval search and rescue unit provided them with fuel. Prior to the repair, they considered being towed in to port by another boat, but the cost was 10,000 pesos per nautical mile.

Leer más...The Mayor gave a speech at the formal instillation of the Hurricane Committee, emphasizing three points:
1. Assurances to the population of the municipality that they are not alone and all entities involved with civil protection are properly coordinated and prepared to handle any emergency circumstance.
2. It is very important, in the case of a weather situation, to ignore rumors and information without sustenance, stressing that the only information that should be given attention is the official information provided by the State System of Civil Protection through the Municipal Committee.
3. The biggest problem in the urban areas is the trash that goes down the storm drains, causing them to become blocked, which results in flooding. Residents are strongly encouraged not to throw trash in the streets and reminded that a great deal can be gained by prevention.
Admiral Alcalá Pignol said it is important for the tour operators, fishermen, and other men of the sea to follow the recommendation and instructions of the Port Authority, to prevent human tragedies.
The officials toured various parts of the municipality to verify, in person, the correct and optimal operation of urban equipment (pumps, sumps, drains, etc). They also visited some of the shelters to verify the are in good condition and comply with regulations.
The meeting took place at the City Council room and included representatives from: Civil Protection, Marina Armada de México, Armada de México, Seguridad Pública, Capitanía de Puerto, Cruz Roja Mexicana, Secretaría de Salud.(Navy, Army, Police, Harbor Master/Port Authority, Red Cross, and Secretary of Health.)

Sisters Reina Eunice, 32, and Guadalupe Concepción Velázquez Díaz, 31, were injured when they slid along the pavement after their scooter made contact with a golf cart carrying four tourists, which had been rented from Gomar II. The accident occurred near Colonia Caridad del Cobre and was blamed on a lack of precaution and poor visibility due to some brush. The foreigners in the golf cart were leaving the street Palo Bravo, to go onto Rueda Medina, the main road. They were supposed to yield to vehicles on the main road, but they did not realize there was a motorcycle coming from south to north, being driven by Reina Eunice. She was the most injured, and was unresponsive to questions at the scene. They were assisted by personnel from Civil Protection and the police, and the paramedics provided aid, transporting both women to the hospital. Neighbors say the roads need proper signage to prevent more accidents in the area.

The rain stopped in the early morning and tourists were out visiting the beach and driving in golf carts. The weather causes difficult economic times when it prohibits the nautical tours providers and fishermen from going to sea. Sales are lower in this slower season, causing difficult times for many businesses.
