Agapito previene posibles inundaciones ante intensas lluvias

Tuesday- Early this morning the Mayor, Agapito Magaña Sánchez, was touring the island with staff from the Civil Protection Department, Public Services, and other officials, checking on the water pumps to assure they were working at one hundred percent, and to assure the drainage is good. Citizens were urged not to leave trash bags or building materials on the sidewalks or near the streets because they clog the drains and sewers, which can cause water to enter your homes and your neighbors, and the damage can be considerable.
In the afternoon, the pump for Abasolo was activated, in addition to the other two already in operation. There have been no major incidents, and the staff, volunteers, and public officials were staying vigilant around all of the isle to prevent flooding and maintain drainage.

Tuesday--It was announced that on tomorrow, on Wednesday, the green light (and the checkered flag) are being given to start work on improving sports and recreational areas around the island with the inauguration of Las Iguanas park. They will add a gym and improve the floor of the Futbol Rapido facility in La Gloria, and improve the basketball court of the Jose del Carmen Pastrnan facility, with money from CONADE, a federal sports agency. Details of the improvements are given in the article, and I have already translated them previously.

Pumping water from the lakes

The pumps were activated for the lakes and thousands of cubic meters of water was pumped off into the sea, to prevent any overflow, as had happened two months ago. Officials toured the pumps and assured that the drainage systems were flowing. Residents were reminded to avoid putting trash, trash bags, or construction materials near the sidewalks or streets. Tuesday was the second day of reduced touristic activities due to rain. Store employees spent their time reading and sweeping water that entered from leaks. The ferries operated normally, but with a reduced number of passengers.

Seeking to reverse the reelection of "Wato"

Buscan revertir reelección de “Wato”.. [+] Ver mas
This is about details of different Articles in legal documents, and associated legal issues surrounding the taxi union election of Wato, Eduardo Peniche, who has served the union as president for nine years. These legal issues are being brought up those who want the election overturned, including Javier Acereto, Miguel Chan and Adolfo Argüelles. They are filing complaints with the Arbitration Board, and taking their complaints to other authorities.

Veteran fishermen files complaint

Veterano pescador denuncia acoso de un inspector[+] Ver mas
Veteran fisherman Daniel Avila Solis, who has been unable to fish for over a year due to health problems, has filed a complaint against the park inspectors at Isla Contoy. The fisherman says a park inspector is blocking the renewal of his permit in 2015, although he says he has met all the requirements and he has the most seniority.
His health problems have left him semi paralyzed on one side of his body, and he is waiting to regain more movement in his left foot, so he can continue his work, and help his son and crew operate the boat. He says, "I need to pay my medical expenses and feed my family."
The veteran angler says he has had a permit to work with his crew capturing fish in the vicinity of the reserve, which is monitored by SEMARNAT. For over 40 years he has been dedicated to capturing species for sports fishing, and is assigned an annual quota, in addition to his other permits.
Because he has had complications of his diabetes and other health problems for over a year, he cannot go out as often as he used to. He says when he can occasionally come to the area, that there is an inspector named Elias who bothers him.
He notes he was once the only fisherman with a permit to vend in the local marinas and in the Cancun hotel zone, offering sports fishing to tourists, which has since developed as a tourist activity.

This is the same information as was already translated about the campaign against animal abuse by (unnamed) NGO's, and the CCDA, Comité Ciudadano y Defensa Animal (Citizen Committee & Animal Defense). They are raising awareness about laws and regulations that exist for the protection of animals with posters that will be hung in public buildings, and they are seeking support to display them in areas that are privately owned also.

ZAPATOS PARA LOS NINOS   Shoes for the Children Annual Christmas Party and Shoe Drive
December is here, and we are collecting shoes and donations for our annual Christmas Party and shoe delivery.  Last year every child that came for shoes walked away with a new pair for Christmas!
This is the one time of year we only collect new shoes in order to make each child feel extra special.
Not only do we distribute shoes, but we join with the local community to provide a meal and a small gift. It is a special event, as for some of the children, it will be their only Christmas gift. They are already looking forward to it on December 24th.
If you would like to donate shoes, please contact Greg Snider at: bullridersnider@yahoo.com

If you would like to contribute monies so we can purchase shoes, food, or small toys, please also contact Greg at the email address above or go to our website for Pay Pal http://www.islazapatos.blogspot.mx/   We will happily send you photos of the children who receive your gifts.   Greg and Natalie
