Leer más...This has the same info as previously translated about the "65 y Mas" program of financial assistance for senior citizens who lack pensions. In addition it says : "en Isla Mujeres habitan un promedio de 537 personas de 65 años o más, es decir, el 37 por ciento de la población total de nuestro municipio", which translates as saying there is an average of 537 people in Isla Mujeres who are 65 or older, ie, 37 percent of the population. Which should be 3.7 percent.

Previously the City had promised to pay 10,000 pesos to individual fishermen of the five commercial cooperatives of Isla Mujeres. during the four months of the closed season for lobster, but this year the City only paid 1500 to each of the fishermen. The money was in the 2013 budget, but the previous administration was unable to complete the payments, and Agapito Magana promised to deliver the remainder. A union member explained the fishermen really do need the remaining 8500 pesos to renew their gear such as nets and lobster traps.

Futbolista (soccer player) Salome Badillo suffered an unusual veto in the Rapid Soccer league, and says the arbitration for his complaint was not impartial. It says something about during the last game there were two faults, and another for two feet, that were not taken into account by the umpire/referee, and with the next minor fault Badillo was given the red card, amid boos from the public who offered insults to the official.

ZAPATOS PARA LOS NINOS Shoes for the Children Annual Christmas Party and Shoe Drive
December is here, and we are collecting shoes and donations for our annual Christmas Party and shoe delivery. Last year every child that came for shoes walked away with a new pair for Christmas!
This is the one time of year we only collect new shoes in order to make each child feel extra special.
Not only do we distribute shoes, but we join with the local community to provide a meal and a small gift. It is a special event, as for some of the children, it will be their only Christmas gift. They are already looking forward to it on December 24th.
If you would like to donate shoes, please contact Greg Snider at: bullridersnider@yahoo.com
If you would like to contribute monies so we can purchase shoes, food, or small toys, please also contact Greg at the email address above or go to our website for Pay Pal http://www.islazapatos.blogspot.mx/ We will happily send you photos of the children who receive your gifts. Greg and Natalie

The children looking up at John with those wide questioning eyes. These were special moments. John jumped up on the teaching platform with George Moger and did the tire obstacle course with the boys. At the end Manuelito gave John a big " hi 5" Bruce was at the Lion Fish Tasting....Which was more of a demo/exhibition/contest...which should result in Lion Fish being on menus around town. Especially if you ask for it! Here's what Annelise posted about it... Asia Caribe took third place honors in the Lion Fish competition on the Esplanade of the Palacio Municipal. Our winning dish was, not surprisingly, the "pecan thing:" The pecan-encrusted grouper with tamarind sauce. We also presented a Lion Fish Tiradito -- paper thin slices of lion fish dressed with lemon, olive oil, salt, pepper and a light chili mix; a dragon roll made with lion fish empanazado; and a dish with a delicious mango sauce made by Paulino. The hit at our table was the replica of a lion fish that Sushi crafted from wasabi colored with grenadine. Hey -- it worked. It was very inspiring to see the variety of dishes presented and the art with which chefs presented their dishes. Many of the fisherman's cooperatives were also represented with really delicious ceviches. Congratulations to Brisas Grill which took first place and to Compadres Restaurant for its second place win. We are proud of our staff and proud that three out of four of the dishes we presented are actually available daily on our menu. The Lion Fish is actually delicious fish with very white flesh. If you see it on local menus, buy it as it is a very invasive species that will destroy local fish populations and will eat the coral reef itself if it can't find other fish to eat. Cheers!
