The municipal Director of Culture, Rubén Pérez Martín, said classes will begin on November 19 at the library in Salina Chica, at the Community Plaza in La Gloria, and in the park in colonia Meteorologica.  Teens and children are invited to participate. These free workshops are taught by professionals in subjects such as painting, music, literature, and dance, and the classes will include pinata making, painting, a reading group, and folk dancing. More information is available from the Dirección de Cultura, at the library "17 de agosto", within the Town Hall, or upstairs at the intersection of Hidalgo & Morelos, downtown.

This morning, the Director of Civil Protection of Isla Mujeres , Humberto Mauro Rodríguez Velázquez , supervised the maintenance of the storm drains on Avenue Rueda Medina .

     Gilberto Ávalos Galué, representative for the State Department of Education and Culture, said there is a proposal to open a Workers Training Center (CECATI) in Isla Mujeres, that will teach classes continuously and not only occasionally. Courses that could be offered include Tourism (Hotel & Restaurant), Computers, Automotive mechanics, English, Gastronomy, and others.
        The official said they will seek ways to use existing facilities for the classes, such as the Middle School and the Community Plaza facilities, and they will involve local hoteliers who also offer their own facilities for the courses. He said, "In this way, any worker who is interested in obtaining training can finish with a certificate in any specialization without having to leave the island."

 A truck and a small backhoe have remained  in the colonia of La Gloria  for ~4 months and neighbors want them removed. They belong to the construction company Dobou, and were used in the construction of Paseo de los Peces Avenue.

Rebound in activity for the nautical tour providers

Friday there was a great demand for boat tours, and the providers worked at 50% of capacity, but they are concerned there may be bad weather this weekend. The tours began at 8am and several went to Isla Contoy, Garrafon, and El Farito, for activities that included snorkeling, diving, and fishing.

Daily Update: Hey I forgot to give you the breakdown. It was 56 dogs (30 females, 26 males) and 36 cats (28 females, 8 males) and three re-stitchings. So now you have to meet my new beautiful dog, Mildred. She came in during the clinic. She’d been living in the street but did have an owner in the loosest possible meaning of the word “owner”. She was covered with mats, and even though Eileen did her magic (sorry Eileen) it isn’t pretty. She had tons of ticks, is very thin and has ehrlichia but we’re on it. She was nervous and a little nippy when she first arrived but has done a complete turn around and just wants more of that TLC that she’s never had. I think she is part poodle and part dachshund, definitely a low rider, my favorite. I have her in the courtyard with Golda and Brad, they are good company. I have also updated my adoption page on the Isla Animals web site, have a look. Don’t forget to vote. http://islaanimals.org/adoptions/rescue-dogs-available-adoption-mexico.html
