90% of Nautical Activity Paralyzed By Surada Winds
Early yesterday, the Harbor Master closed the port for boats under 40 feet due to winds up to 40kph, with gusts up to 50 kilometers per hour. He did not allow them to offer their tours in the bay or to el Farito (a snorkeling area where there is a small islet with a little lighthouse). The winds chased many sunbathers from the beach and caused sand to pile up on the sidewalks, curbs, and streets, particularly near the Posada beach on north main street. The ferries were running normally. The Harbor Master said if conditions improve on Thursday, the small boats will be allowed to leave port. Islanders Are 7% Of State Population: Congressman Backs Infrastructure Initiative
Isla Mujeres state Congressional Representative, Deputy Demetrio Calaya Cotero, has been promoting an initiative to the Congress for two years that would give more support to the development of infrastructure on the islands of Quintana Roo. He explained that 7% of the state population, 93,633 residents, live on the islands of Isla Mujeres, Holbox, and Cozumel. . He explained that the adoption by the Thirteenth Legislature of this decree as an additional paragraph to Article 8 of the Constitution of Quintana Roo, would allow more support for infrastructure to the nearly 100,000 residents of these islands. It also aligns with the Amsterdam Treaty which recognizes that island regions suffer from structural handicaps in health, education, water, transportation, and other services, which he says in in breach of the Constitution which guarantees equal opportunity for all the people of Quintana Roo. The article about the PANista facing expulsion was already translated, and the article about increased activity in the Q Roo ports has the statistics already translated about increased passenger arrivals in Isla Mujeres, and also has statistics for other Q Roo ports. The Por Esto articles are summarized in today's Early Edition. PE's photos, headlines, and links take more steps to copy and paste, so I just summarized them, with a link to all four articles.
