Everything is ready for the annual colorful New Year's Eve party on the town square, which includes dancing and live music byt Manhattan and Son Latino. The event is free and the public is invited, while all the tables have been sold with proceeds going to the DIF social service agency for the benefit of the elderly, disabled, and vulnerable families. This event is expected to exceed the previous celebrations, and is attended by a large number of tourists, as well as islanders. The other event in which both groups participate is the welcoming of the first rays of the sun to the coast of Mexico, where Isla Mujeres is touched first, which has become an island tradition.

The General Hospital was open every day of 2013 and plans to be open every day of 2014, with staff on duty in the mornings, afternoons-evenings, and nights. They will be open on Dec 31 and Jan 1st. The director admitted some people take vacation on these days, but this is no reason the hospital cannot offer it services. He hinted that there may be major changes in the workforce of the hospital next year, but did not give details.  The Naval hospital will also be open.
